Export Wix vs Shopify to HTML

Two platforms, same pitch: "build your online store easy." But they're not the same. Not even close.

Shopify exists for e-commerce. That's all it does. Inventory management, shipping calculations, abandoned cart recovery, payment processing, it's built for stores. Real stores with real volume.

Wix is a website builder that added e-commerce later. It works for small stuff. A local artist selling prints. A bakery taking preorders. But the tools feel bolted on because they were.

Let's talk money. Shopify Basic runs $39/month plus 2.9% + 30 cents per transaction. Their Advanced plan ($399/month) drops that to 2.4%. Wix Business Basic is $27/month with 2.9% fees.

Sounds like Wix wins on price. Doesn't work out that way.

At $5,000/month in sales, you're paying roughly $145 in Shopify transaction fees or $145 in Wix fees. Add the monthly subscription and Wix costs $172 total, Shopify $184. Close enough. But Shopify gives you way better inventory tools, shipping integrations, and analytics.

At $50,000/month? The fee difference actually favors Shopify if you're on Advanced. And at that volume you need Shopify's infrastructure anyway.

Here's where it gets interesting. A lot of people searching "Wix vs Shopify" don't actually need either.

Product catalogs. Photography portfolios. Restaurant menus with prices. Service listings. None of these need checkout. They're basicaly brochures with product photos.

For those sites, you're paying $300+ per year to display images and text. That's it. No transactions to process. No inventory to track. Just pages.

Export to static HTML instead. Host on Netlify for free. Your catalog looks the same, loads faster, and costs nothing. When someone wants to buy, give them a phone number or email. Old school works.

If you need actual e-commerce, cart, checkout, payment processing, pick based on scale. Selling a few items as a side hustle? Wix is fine. Building a real business? Shopify. The tools matter when volume hits.

But if you just need to show products without selling them online? Neither. Export and save yourself thousands.
