Export Wix to Webflow to HTML

Wix is training wheels. Webflow is the real bike. That's the appeal, and the challenge. You're trading ease of use for genuine design freedom.

The migration isn't automatic. Webflow doesn't import Wix sites. Nobody does, really. Wix uses proprietary code that doesn't translate. You're rebuilding from scratch, but with your existing content as a guide.

Start by exporting your Wix site to HTML. You get all your images in one folder, your text content preserved, your layouts visible in a browser. Open that alongside Webflow's designer. It's the closest thing to a migration tool you'll find.

Here's the migration workflow:

Export your Wix site. Download the HTML ZIP, extract it, open your pages in Chrome. Keep this browser window visible while you work in Webflow.

Set up your Webflow project. Start with a blank template, you're recreating your design, not adapting someone else's. Webflow's learning curve is real. Budget time to understand the box model if you haven't worked with CSS before.

Build your layout structure first. Webflow thinks in containers, sections, and flexbox. Plan your grid before adding content. It's tempting to dive into details, but solid structure saves headaches later.

Add your content. Copy text from your HTML export. Drag images from your assets folder. Webflow handles responsive design explicitly, you'll set breakpoints and adjust layouts for tablet and mobile separately.

Connect your CMS if needed. Webflow's CMS is powerful but adds cost ($23/month minimum). For blogs or portfolios with lots of similar items, it's worth it. For static pages, skip it.

What you gain: pixel-perfect control, cleaner code, better animations, the ability to export your code (on paid plans). What you lose: Wix's simplicity, your existing design, and time.

Here's the thing most migration guides won't tell you: if you're leaving Wix because of the monthly fees, Webflow doesn't solve that. Similar pricing, sometimes higher. The reason to switch is creative control, not cost savings.

For cost savings, export to static HTML and host for free. Works for most sites that don't need a CMS. But if you want Webflow's design capabilities, interactions, custom animations, precise typography, the migration is worth it.

Budget 1-2 weeks for a complete site rebuild. Webflow rewards patience. The sites you can build are genuinley better than what Wix allows. Just know what you're signing up for.
