Export Wix Domain Transfer to HTML

Domain transfers sound complicated. They're actually not. Just a bunch of steps that need to happen in order.

Let's start with transferring away from Wix, the more common scenario.

Transferring Your Domain Out of Wix:

Step 1: Make sure the domain is eligible. It can't be within 60 days of initial registration. It can't be within 60 days of a previous transfer. And it can't have any pending disputes or legal holds.

Step 2: Unlock the domain. Log into Wix, go to your dashboard, click "Domains." Select the domain you want to transfer. Find the option to "Transfer Away from Wix" or "Unlock Domain."

Step 3: Get your authorization code. Also called an EPP code or auth code. Wix will display this after you unlock the domain. Copy it somewhere safe, you'll need it.

Step 4: Start the transfer at your new registrar. Go to Namecheap, Cloudflare, Google Domains, wherever. Look for "Transfer Domain" and enter your domain name plus the authorization code.

Step 5: Pay for the transfer. Usually costs one year's registration fee at the new registrar. This extends your domain for another year, so it's not wasted money.

Step 6: Confirm the transfer. You'll get emails, from Wix and from the new registrar. Approve the transfer when prompted. Don't ignore these emails or the transfer might fail.

Step 7: Wait. Transfers take 5-7 days typically. Sometimes faster if both registrars process quickly. Your domain keeps working during this time.

Now, transferring a domain into Wix:

Basically the same process in reverse. Unlock the domain at your current registrar. Get the authorization code from them. Go to Wix, find "Connect a Domain" or "Transfer Domain to Wix." Enter the domain and auth code. Pay for another year. Confirm via email. Wait.

Wix domain transfers usually cost around $15-25 per year, depending on the extension. Check their pricing page for exact numbers.

Things that can go wrong:

Wrong authorization code, typos happen. Copy-paste instead of typing.

Domain still locked, you need to explicitly unlock it before transferring.

Emails going to spam, check your spam folder for confirmation emails.

Privacy protection issues, some privacy services block transfer emails. Disable temporarily if needed.

The transfer times out if not confirmed within a certain window. Usually 5-10 days. Don't procrastinate on those confirmation emails.

One more thing: if you're transferring away because you're done with Wix, export your website first. The domain transfer and website export are seperate processes. Handle both.
