Export Wix Alternatives to HTML

Wix has problems. Maybe you've hit them, the slow page loads, the lock-in, the monthly fees that never end. Time to look elsewhere.

Here's what else is out there.

Squarespace is the obvious one. Better templates, cleaner code, faster sites. Starts at $16/month. The editor is more restrictive than Wix, less drag-and-drop flexibility, but the results usually look more professional. Great for portfolios and content sites.

WordPress powers 43% of the web. The self-hosted version (WordPress.org, not .com) is free. You'll pay for hosting, $5 to $25/month typically, and spend time on updates. More complex than Wix but infinitely more flexible. If you need plugins, member areas, or heavy customization, this is where you go.

Webflow is what designers use. Visual editor that outputs clean code. Steep learning curve but serious design control. Plans start at $14/month for hosting, but code export is locked behind Workspace plans at $16+/month per seat. Best for people who understand CSS concepts.

Framer started as a prototyping tool and pivoted to websites. Beautiful animations, modern aesthetic. $5 to $30/month depending on needs. No code export at all, you're locked to their hosting. Feels cutting-edge but has some of Wix's same lock-in problems.

Carrd is the lightweight option. Single-page sites only. $19 to $49/year, not monthly, yearly. Perfect for link-in-bio pages, simple landing pages, coming soon pages. Does one thing well.

But here's the option nobody mentions: static HTML.

Your website probably doesn't need a builder. If it's mostly text and images, a portfolio, restaurant menu, small business page, plain HTML files do the job perfectly. They load faster than any builder. They cost nothing to host. You own the files forever.

The catch: you need some technical comfort. Editing HTML isn't hard, but it's not visual either. For non-technical folks, that's a real barrier.

Already have a Wix site?

You don't have to rebuild from scratch. Export your Wix site to static HTML first. You get your design, your content, your images, all as portable files. Then host those files anywhere. Free on Netlify. Free on GitHub Pages. Pennies on AWS.

This is what I'd actually recommend for most people. Don't pick another builder and restart. Don't pay another subscription forever. Just extract what you've already built and own it.

The tools matter less than the outcome. If you need a website online and don't want to think about it, Squarespace is probably your best bet, cleaner than Wix, fewer headaches.

If you want actual control, learn just enough HTML to edit static files. Your future self will thank you when the next builder you picked tries to raise prices or change features.
