Export Weebly to Wix to HTML

Weebly had its moment. Simple, cheap, got the job done. But Square bought them in 2018, and development kinda stalled. The templates feel stuck in 2015. The editor is clunky. Half the features are pushed toward Square Online instead.

Wix kept evolving. Better templates, smoother editor, actual design flexibility. If Weebly isn't cutting it anymore, Wix is a reasonable upgrade.

Bad news first: there's no migration path. Weebly and Wix don't talk to each other. You're rebuilding your site, not importing it. The good news? With a proper export, you're copying and pasting, not starting from memory.

Sign up for Wix. Start with a free account to learn the editor before committing to a paid plan. Wix's interface takes some getting used to if you've only known Weebly.

Pick a template or start blank. Wix has hundreds of templates. Find one that matches your vibe, or start empty if you want complete control. Don't stress the choice, everything's customizable.

Open your export and Wix side by side. Two browser windows: your exported HTML on the left, Wix editor on the right. Copy text block by block. Drag images from your export folder into Wix. Rebuild layouts section by section.

Handle your blog carefully. This is the tedious part. Each Weebly blog post needs manual recreation in Wix Blog. For 20 posts, budget half a day. For 100+, consider whether you actually need all of them.

Configure your domain. Point your DNS to Wix's servers. If you bought your domain through Weebly, you can transfer it out or just update nameservers. Standard process, Wix walks you through it.

What you gain from the switch: freeform layout (drag anything anywhere), more templates, better app ecosystem, ongoing development. Wix is actively adding features. Weebly... isn't really.

What you lose: Weebly's simplicity. Wix has more options, which means more decisions. The learning curve is steeper. Some people find Wix overwhelming after Weebly's constraints.

Cost comparison: similar. Both start around $10-16/month for removing ads. Wix's upper tiers go higher than Weebly's, but you get more for the money. Neither is cheap.

Plan for a week of work on a typical site. Don't rush it, you're only doing this once. When it's done, you'll have a modern site that doesn't feel like it's stuck in 2015.
