Export Weebly to Squarespace to HTML

Squarespace has that design polish Weebly lacks. The templates are cleaner, more modern, more likely to impress visitors. That's probably why you're considering the switch.

Bad news: there's no import button. Squarespace doesn't pull from Weebly automatically. You're looking at a rebuild.

Good news: the rebuild isn't as painful as it sounds. Squarespace's editor is intuitive, and having your Weebly site as reference makes the process faster.

Here's the migration plan:

Step one, export your Weebly site. Use Weebly's built-in archive (Settings > General > Archive) for blog posts and basic content. Better yet, use a tool like ours to export your entire site as HTML. You'll have a complete visual reference of every page.

Step two, sign up for Squarespace. Start a free trial, they give you 14 days. Browse templates. Pick one that matches your content type: portfolio, business, blog, whatever. Don't stress about exact matches; you can customize extensively.

Step three, recreate your pages. Open your exported Weebly site in one browser tab, Squarespace in another. Work through page by page. Copy text, upload images, arrange sections. Squarespace's block editor makes this pretty painless.

Step four, handle your blog. Squarespace can import from some platforms via XML. Weebly's blog export is XML, so this might work. Go to Settings > Import Content in Squarespace. If the import is messy (it often is), you might need to clean up formatting or just copy posts manually.

Step five, set up forms. Squarespace has built-in form blocks. They work differently than Weebly's forms but the setup is straighforward. Add a form block, configure fields, connect to email or a third-party service.

Step six, connect your domain. If your domain is through Weebly, transfer it to Squarespace or another registrar. If it's elsewhere, just update DNS to point to Squarespace. They have detailed guides for this.

Timeline expectations: a simple 5-page site migrates in an afternoon. A site with 20+ pages and lots of blog posts? Budget a few days spread over a week.

Cost comparison: Squarespace starts at $16/month (personal) and goes up to $52/month (commerce). Weebly runs $10-26/month for comparable features. You're paying more for Squarespace, decide if the design quality justifies it.

One thought before you commit: both Weebly and Squarespace lock you in. Neither exports properly. If you're leaving Weebly because you're tired of that lock-in, Squarespace won't solve the problem. Consider static HTML hosting instead, export your Weebly site, host it free, actually own your website.

But if Squarespace's templates are what you want, the migration is manageable. Just go in with realistic expectations.
