Export Weebly Alternatives to HTML

Square bought Weebly in 2018. Six years later, the platform feels like an afterthought.

That's not me being harsh, it's observable. Template library hasn't grown much. The editor feels stuck in 2019. New features? Mostly commerce-focused, because that's what Square cares about.

If you're running an online store through Square's ecosystem, Weebly makes sense. For everyone else? Time to look around.

Squarespace is the obvious move. Better templates, more modern editor, actually gets regular updates. Templates look like they were designed this decade. Downside is price, starts at $16/month vs Weebly's $10.

Wix gives you more flexibility. Drag anything anywhere, ton of templates, constant feature additions. Their editor is busier than Squarespace's but you can do more with it. Similar pricing to Squarespace at $17/month and up.

WordPress is free but brings its own headaches. Updates, security, hosting management. For a simple site, it's overkill.

But here's the option nobody mentions: don't migrate. Export.

Your Weebly site works. It looks how you want. Why rebuild from scratch on another platform that'll charge monthly fees forever?

Export your Weebly site to static HTML. Same design, same content. Host it on Netlify for free. Or GitHub Pages. Or a $3/month shared host if you prefer traditional hosting.

You lose Weebly's editor, future changes mean editing HTML files. For a site you update twice a year, that's fine. For something you change weekly, maybe stick with a builder.

The calcualtion is simple. Active editing? Squarespace or Wix. Finished site you rarely touch? Export and stop paying.

Either way, get off Weebly before Square decides to sunset something you need.
