Export Sell on Wix for Free to HTML

Let's get this out of the way: you can't really sell on Wix for free. Not properly, anyway.

Wix's free plan doesn't include payment processing. No checkout. No shopping cart. No way to actually complete a transaction on your site. It's designed for personal sites and portfolios, not commerce.

So why do people keep searching for this? Because $29/month feels steep when you're just starting out. I get it.

Here's what the free plan actually offers for selling:

You can display products. Add images, descriptions, prices. Build out a full product catalog that looks professional. Customers just... can't buy anything.

That's it. That's the free ecommerce experience.

Some people try workarounds. Link to PayPal.me in your product descriptions. Use Venmo or Cash App. Direct people to DM you on Instagram. These technically work but they're terrible for conversions. Nobody wants to jump through hoops to give you money.

The math on whether to upgrade:

Business Basic costs $29/month, or about $17/month if you commit annually. That's $204 per year at the cheapest.

If you're selling a $30 product, you need to move 7 units just to cover your Wix subscription. More when you factor in payment processing fees.

For hobbyists selling occasionally, that might not make sense. For actual businesses, it's a rounding error.

Alternatives if Wix's pricing doesn't work for you:

Etsy charges no monthly fee. You pay per listing ($0.20) and a transaction fee (6.5%). For low volume sellers, this costs way less than Wix.

Gumroad takes 10% of sales but nothing upfront. Perfect for digital products with unpredictable sales.

Square Online has a free tier with ecommerce. You pay payment processing (2.9% + $0.30) but no monthly subscription. The templates aren't as nice as Wix but it actualy lets you sell for free.

Big Cartel offers a free plan for up to 5 products. Very limited but genuinely free selling.

Ko-fi works for creators selling digital stuff. No monthly fee, just 0% commission on sales (they make money from optional tips and premium features).

What I'd actually recommend:

If you're testing whether your products sell at all, use a marketplace first. Etsy, Gumroad, even Instagram shopping. Validate demand before committing to monthly fees.

Once you're consistently making sales, that's when a dedicated store makes sense. Maybe that's Wix, maybe it's Shopify, maybe it's something else entirely.

Don't pay $29/month to a show products nobody's buying yet.
